Captain Pete is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed boat captain, and can typically be found boating, fishing, kayaking or walking one of the Eastern Shore’s many Natural Area Preserves (his favorites are Savage Neck Dunes and Magothy Bay) with his wife. His love of nature is why he volunteers with several conservancy groups and naturalist programs. Captain Pete has a masters degree in education and is a Certified Virginia Ecotour Guide. Due to U.S. Coast Guard regulations, we are able to take out a maximum of 6 passengers on our boat tours. No exceptions. Please note that children, no matter their age, count as a passenger.
However, if you have a larger group (i.e. family reunion, wedding party, corporate retreat, etc.), consider a custom charter/tour. We may be able to coordinate with another boat tour company to get all of your party out on multiple boats.
No. You are booking a private boat tour.
Yes. Children 5 years and older are permitted if accompanied by an adult. Please note that all children 12 and under are required, by law, to wear a personal flotation device (aka life jacket). Eastern Shore Boat Tours, LLC will provide life jackets.
This will largely be weather dependent, but layers are always best. The sun can be intense while on the water so we always suggest a long-sleeve sun shirt, hat and sunglasses. On cooler days or evenings, we recommend a sweatshirt or windbreaker, since temperatures can be much cooler on the water.
Because we are on a boat, don't bring anything that you are not willing to get wet. Additionally, there is not a lot of extra storage space on the boat, so please limit what you bring. With that being said, you really don't need to bring much with you other than sunblock, sunglasses, a hat, camera and drinks/snacks. If you bring drinks/snacks, please do not bring glass containers or glasses. Also, please do not bring snacks like Cheetos or Doritos; while tasty, the orange color causes stains on our boat cushions that are not removable.
Sorry, we can not accommodate dogs or other pets on our tours.
Your tour will take place on a 2019 Carolina Skiff 198 DLV, a shallow draft boat that allows us to explore the shallow waters around the barrier islands, yet also cruise comfortably on our Cape Charles Sunset Tours. Our skiff has a Bimini top for shade, state-of-the-art navigation equipment, and all safety gear required by the U.S. Coast Guard.
All of our bookings are handled by Fare Harbor, the world's largest tour and activity booking company. Once you make a reservation for your private boat tour, you will receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org.
All passengers are required to sign a waiver. A link to the waiver is included in the confirmation email. The person booking the tour should forward this link to all participants.
Safety is our priority so there may be times that we need to cancel or reschedule due to weather or wind. When you make reservations, please provide the best phone number (i.e. cell phone) to reach you on the day of the boat tour if we need to call you about the weather.
Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. No-shows will be charged the full price.
